Domestic Violence against men

It's been a really long time since I blogged but I have been writing something that I think is important.

A few months ago I was approached by an actor called Valmike Rampersad. He had seen one of my films online and wanted to discuss a project that he'd been sitting on for several years. This project was about male domestic voilence.

I had no frame of reference on the subject matter so I started researching. I watched as much online as I could and read as many articles as possible. Valmike had also done extensive research and we enjoyed (if that's not too inappropriate) lengthy discussions about the subject matter. I wrote a script at the start of 2016 that's now in preproduction but I couldn't help feel that I wanted more.

Last week I arranged a meeting with Mark Brooks. He is the chairman of The Mankind Initiative. They're a leading UK charity that support victims/survivors and lobby for changes in goverment policy but also help to raise public awareness.

I have been interacting on twitter with male domestic abuse survivors and I hope in the weeks to come I'll have an opportunity to speak face to face with individuals whos partners have been prosecuted and have managed to claim their lives back.

My research has led me to become a speaker at an event this weekend. The company is called Reritten and I'm going to be talking about getting a socially important film off the ground.

I have now realised the heavy responsibility on my shoulders to ensure that my film is an accurate and realistic depiction of this socially taboo subject matter.
